First Open defecation free and cleanest city in India - Indore

Basix Municipal Waste Ventures Ltd., is constantly finding newer ways and means to create public awareness about cleanliness and hygiene to be maintained always in order to reduce hazards to health of the people.

One such activities is the DabbaGang with whistle blower initiative. The BMWV and SWM teams play the Dabbaand blow the whistle at the identified open defecation spots in the city.

The objective of this initiative is to

  • Monitor the spots of open defecation.
  • Stop them from defecating in open.
  • Educate people about the importance of proper sanitation systems.
  • Motivate them to construct toilets in their home and use them.

For a sustainable approach, involving the active participation and involving the local community is of vital importance. Reduction in water and sanitation related disease cases, people started usage of toilets and construction of toilets were the outcomes of this initiative.

Knowledge about segregation of waste, making it a habit, part of one’s life style certainly has a larger impact on the future generations.

In Indore, mass marriage/community weddings is organized under Chief Minister’sKanyadaanYojana. Continuing this practice, 56 couples got married on DevauthniGyaras with an additional eighth vow – the oath of Swachh Bharat during this ceremony.

All the newly-wed couples were gifted twin color coded dustbins to start the new phase of their lives in a clean and healthy way.
